Big City Dreams

Hallucinating city lights
Stark against the sky
A cornucopia of blazing colours
Hides miseries in the sly.

Smiling happy faces
Contorted minds at work
Somewhere down the city street
Doth the Evil lurk.

The copious flow of spirit
And coruscating eyes of coal
Depravity stares the city down
The desecration of the soul.

The other side of midnight
Unveils the shrouded pain
In trepidation and poverty
Lies the city’s vein.

A catastrophic kaleidoscope
An anarchy that reigns
Horrors of a deprived past
Shapes the city’s stains.

The first light of dawn
That paints the city tower
And all that surrounds me
Is a feigned sense of power.

Yet this is my city
The city that I love
Thus spurned by the Gods
The unseeing eye above.
